The Crane

One of the most enjoyable things about living in Barbados, is enjoying it through family and friends eyes. It is a privilege to give them the gift of staying with us in such a wonderful country, and they certainly enjoy getting away from the cold and snowy weather in Canada.  When my MIL was here, we took her for lunch at the Crane hotel.

The Crane is on the south-east coast of Barbados, and the beach has been rated as of the top 10 in the world, by Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous.  The sand is like talcum powder, and at certain times of the day has a pinkish cast to it.

The buildings are beautiful, it is actually like a little village, a collection of different buildings that include the rooms, restaurants and shops.

The guests in this building have a fabulous view.

Now that is a pool,

and look at the tree.

This is the east coast of Barbados, and there is nothing to the east until Africa. The winds are quite strong on this side of the island.

Of course, I enjoyed walking the grounds

 and looking at the landscaping,

 love this statue.

This is the restaurant where we had lunch on the balcony,

 amazing…

Oh Memories…..I used to drive to this beach every Sunday with my English friend and her son who live in Barbardos. He used to take his little surf board and is now a top surfer in Barbados – I found him on Facebook!

Do you still have to walk down a million steps to get to the beach with a shower half way up to stand under?

The Crane is my favourite beach – thanks for the pics.

Hi Jennie, there are 2 entrances to the beach, we took the one from the hotel after our lunch, and it was a lift, (we were very lazy). I didn’t check out the other end, but we shall certainly go back. Ian is interested in taking surfing lessons while we are here, it is very popular.

What a fantastic setting, the Crane looks superb, bet MIL enjoyed her meal there! The wind must be fierce to shape the tree like that, hope you get gentle westerlies for most of the time!

It was a wonderful lunch, although I ate some of my hair, there is a reason the tree is like that, lol. We still get the easterlies on my side of the island, but they have lost a lot of force by then.

I stayed on the East Coast Highway one winter and the wind didn’t let up the whole week, blowing open the shutters at night even. We visited the Crane hotel and it still looks as glorious as the day we were there 18 years ago. Thanks for showing us this national treasure.
