I was standing on the balcony the other day, waiting for Ian to arrive home from work. Imagine my surprise when a monkey dashed across the road. I also dashed…for my camera.
By the time I retrieved it, the monkey had climbed the wall into the complex.

The Green Monkeys of Barbados are the cutest. Originally arriving in Barbados over 350 years ago, they arrived with ships from West Africa. They seem to be most active in the early morning, Ian often sees them on the way to work. With their fur blending into the surrounding vegetation, they are noticable only when they move. Disliked by farmers and gardeners both, as they have a bad habit of picking a piece of fruit, taking a bite, and moving onto the next piece.
Sounds like the squirrels and my tulips at Kilbourne Grove. Grrr, my blood pressure is going up just thinking about it.
I am a floral designer living in a tiny condo in downtown Toronto, Canada's largest city. But on the weekend, I am a gardener/frustrated architect trying to keep up with a 3/4 acre garden in Owen Sound, Ontario, a warm (to Canadians, Zone 5b, and a cold (to Americans, Zone 4b) garden.

I had to laugh, those naughty monkeys sound like our squirrels. Take one bite out of the tomato, and move on to the next one! Now I’m grateful we don’t have monkeys too! 😉

There is a reserve, but Barbados has a series of heavily forested gullies, that carry the rainwater to the coast. The monkeys are very well hidden in there.

In India they are known for grabbing tourists’ cameras and running off with them. Some also bite. Cute, though.

I used to get really upset about the deer in my garden and then I saw a show where farmers (I can’t remember which country) had elephants raiding their gardens. It made me feel much better about my own circumstances! So don’t worry about those squirrels, things could be worse.
